People had their cameras out. Some of them had tears in their eyes. Others smiled and shook their head as the final Dodge Challenger rolled out of the production line. The final vehicle, an SRT Demon 170 in midnight black, was the best way to end the development of this iconic muscle car. And if we can be honest, we were the ones crying.

The HEMI® is No More

The 5.7L, 6.4L, and 6.2L HEMI® engines that powered the Dodge Challenger and Dodge Charger R/T, Scat Pack, and Hellcat are extinct. So, that sweet-sounding serenade of a V8 engine will only be enjoyed by those who still have one. Or can find one used in the coming years.

But that doesn’t mean the vehicle itself will be gone. There’s rumors floating that the new Challenger will possess the inline-6 Hurricane engine. And the Dodge Charger EV is primed for release. But those two vehicles will be hard-pressed to find approval by muscle car enthusiasts throughout the nation.
